From an ambitious apprentice to a marvellous managerPosted by James Howard / June 1st, 2017 / No responses
From apprentice to manager in the space of four years, our operations manager Sophie Williams is a fantastic example of how with immense determination and grit you can quickly climb the career ladder within Yorkshire Payments.
Sophie joined the Yorkshire Payments team in 2013, completing a Level 2 NVQ apprenticeship in Business and Administration. She swiftly moved on to complete a Level 3 apprenticeship in Customer Service at the National Business College in Huddersfield.
Making the decision to leave sixth form in her first year, Sophie was keen to escape the classroom and eager to become more independent, and start earning money for herself.
A major point for Sophie, when applying for the role at Yorkshire Payments, was that she wanted the opportunity to work her way up within the business and be noticed as an individual, not just a number.
Upon joining the company, Sophie started out working alongside the office manager, taking inbound calls, chasing customers with queries, contacting the bank, completing application forms and assisting other colleagues.
With increased responsibility, Sophie now deals with the more complex customer queries and actively manages other members of the team, including new apprentices. The promotion has allowed Sophie to be more involved in the debt collection side of the business. The team are given new targets on a weekly basis and it is her responsibility to ensure they are achievable and assist the rest of the team in attaining these.
Despite already making huge steps in her career, Sophie is currently looking towards her next career goals which involves taking the lead on helping the company o achiveve ISO 9001 certification.
Commenting on her rise to the top, Sophie Williams comments:
“The best thing about my role is the people I work with, everyone in the team works extremely hard to achieve their targets and provide great customer service.
“We work incredibly well together as a team, helping each other out if needed, which makes Yorkshire Payments a really enjoyable place to work.
