Shop Local at Christmas and Discover Brighouse

Independent businesses are the backbone of local communities and economies across the UK. In the last 18 months independent retailers have relied on customers visiting their premises to keep them going. As long standing champions of small, local businesses we wanted to showcase and support local independents here in Brighouse and campaign to shop local.

Shopping and spending habits have changed dramatically. Online spending has increased and more people are choosing to shop online. Local businesses have had to adapt to changing demands and consumer spending habits.

Brighouse has experienced a steady flow of high street shopping over the last 12 months and that’s largely down to the introduction of new seating areas, more greenery, the large variety of outlets and it’s excellent reputation for distinctive shops and wonderful places to eat and drink. People travel from all over Calderdale to shop at Brighouse, it has excellent transport links and many low cost car parks close to the centre. Brighouse is a town with a strong, distinctive identity and above all a sense of community. The large range of independent businesses offering everything from food, hardware, gifts, furniture, clothing and much more is what makes Brighouse the place to be for a positive shopping experience.

Why shop local?

Shop local to support the local economy

Choosing to shop locally and purchase from independent businesses pumps money into the local economy. Whether you’re spending money in local shops, or eating out at a restaurant, café or pub, shopping locally contributes to the local community and also helps to aid national recovery across the country.

Shop local to increase employment opportunities

Supporting your high street creates job stability and creates new jobs in local communities. By helping to grow the number of jobs in your local area you are contributing to growth and helping to create an environment that is desirable to live and work which then creates a healthy local economy.

Shop local for more choice and originality

Small, local, independent businesses often sell items which are either made locally or aren’t available anywhere else providing a wide range of choice of unique and original products that you wouldn’t find mass produced or in any chain stores. When it comes to independent food shops and eateries such as a Butchers, greengrocers and restaurants it is highly likely that it is locally sourced, sustainable and fresh.
